The Viper Room is supposedly known for having good sound.
I played there a few years ago and absolutely loved the sound on stage, but this time I was unimpressed and disappointed.
We showed up early, ready to do a sound check and put on a great show, but the sound guy seemed asleep at the wheel that night. The Viper Room requires bands to use the provided house drums and backline, because they (theoretically) already have it nicely dialed in for the size and acoustics of the room. This is great for guitarists, bassists, and drummers who normally have to lug around all their heavy gear to every show. During our show we were getting feedback, squeaks, and an overall shite mix on stage, while the sound guy was busy on his computer doing who knows what. I could not hear the violin at all. I was told that it sounded better in the audience, but I really expected a better mix at a well-known Rock club like the Viper.
In music, as in life, you go out and do the best job you can and don’t worry about the rest.
Special thanks to Nick Tangen for pounding on those drums one more time with us. It sounded brilliant!
Nick, you are forever a friend of the Clan.
Also, thank you to our friends Kirk, Arnel, and Richard for hanging out with us after the show. You guys are the reason we do this. We don’t have fans we have FRIENDS!
Check out a few pics from The Viper Room!
p.s. – Stayed tuned for some exciting news coming for December…
Cheers,
John
